Turkey For Me The turkey's our grand native bird America's finest—absurd that eagles became our symbol of fame since "native" is always preferred. Bald eagle's our symbol for sure but turkeys each year were a lure at markets and farms, in fields and barns, our Thanksgiving feast did insure. Main course for our dinner that day, two centuries plus, turkeys they appeased, kept us strong, when feasts came along, they sacrificed their lives that way. So it would be fair if we could choose turkey for the common good. Our symbol should be Thanksgiving Turkey! Their service is misunderstood! Sandra M. Loved the way you wrote this, Sandra. Clever way to choose limerick for a light write. The bird version of a sacrificial lamb -deserving of a win! hugs!

A great entry Sandra! The unglamorous turkey becomes elegant and savory on our Thanksgiving table, and they are far more favored than the magestic eagle as far as praise goes. Loved this one! #7

Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey for our national bird. I think the eagle is more a symbol of power and freedom. But I love turkey on Thanksgiving and I enjoyed your delightful poem! Best wishes in the contest! Love, Kim

Thank you, Kim. Yes, our eagle is a great symbol of power and freedom for our country. Thought I would give the turkey some poetic praise thinking that many won't choose him as their theme! Glad you liked it. Hugs, Sandra
