Turkey For Me
The turkey's our grand native bird
America's finest—absurd
that eagles became
our symbol of fame
since "native" is always preferred.
Bald eagle's our symbol for sure
but turkeys each year were a lure
at markets and farms,
in fields and barns,
our Thanksgiving feast did insure.
Main course for our dinner that day,
two centuries plus, turkeys they
appeased, kept us strong,
when feasts came along,
they sacrificed their lives that way.
So it would be fair if we could
choose turkey for the common good.
Our symbol should be
Thanksgiving Turkey!
Their service is misunderstood!
