The Kid Who Knew Squat About Christmas

“So tell me,” I asked the young boy, “to whom does one owe Christmas joy?” But the lad looked at me and just said, “Can’t you see? It means when you get the best toy!” “Do you know why the wise men rode far on their camels to follow a star?” With surprise in his eyes, he said, “How were they wise? They should have just driven a car!” “Do you know why we have Christmas day?” But here’s all the poor kid could say: “You spoke of some dude that those ‘wise guy’ pursued. Just WHO was this ‘star’ anyway?” For PD's the 101 contests in a row --- 20 (Christmas Poems)Poetry Contest

Andrea This is a silly and fun write with a hidden message that Christmas is getting to materialistic and lost its meaning. Great job AAAWW Thanks for the awesome comment on my January poem and the fave. Hugs

LOL! enjoyed this:) While humourous, says much about the commercialization of Christmas and the reason for the season, and it's sad. Yes a couple here and there flowed out over the past couple of months but it was overall a dry spell and it's intensity unnerving.

You are right. This generation is so materialistic and the real meaning of Christmas is almost non-existant for them . Congrats on your well deserved win. Love, iolanda

Your idea for this gem is totally protrayed in clarity Andrea. "The moral principal of the meaning was totally lost to the child's mind!" It is scary to think that this is so true in our society, by the way Christmas has become so commerialized! "Congratulations on a worthy poem's recognition!" Agape, Moses

Oh what a shame indeed, to not know the reason behind that star-- what a witty set of limericks that also shine on the fact that Christmas for some have really lost the true reason behind it-- I do have to say though that line about the car sure made me smile!! I sure have to catch up on your poems, sweetie-- eek lemme do that just about now :) -- email you later oki?? hugs :)

good limerick Andrea, i think it covers a whole load of people, the boys response, after all jesus was crucified by the moral authoritys in jerusalem.there is such a gap between a fleeting interest and the true follower, and we all can be, and are fallible.pheww..!
