Our Oral Fixation

We’re mostly big and contorted From snacks and diets distorted If you are still thin You no longer fit in Small portions our culture's aborted Author's note: Just got back from the continent. People are still much leaner there than here. We need to stop filling ourselves and learn to be a little more satisfied with less. It is really OK. Now pass the fries please! BTW, the central market in Florence is a fantastic display of food love, yet the people there are thin. How can this be?

Another clever limmy, Duke. Pass the fries indeed! Your note put a smile on my face, though this is a serious topic indeed. ~Laura

Great Limerick, Duke. I tend to walk when ever I can, strolled seven miles to a friend's house yesterday (bus back home, though) - saves me money on new trouser belts. Regards, Viv

You are just too much, sir! You have such a wispy sense of humor that makes me smile. Did you mention your wife is not well? If that be true, I wish you best of luck and fortune with the situation. You are one of the most remarkable spirits here. You have special charm, and I mean that to the hilt.

I think because they walk everywhere, that is how the Europeans are keeping thin, Americans just drive every place! WE have such BIG portions here in the US, but I'd be angry if they didn't! (just gotta be careful what I am eating) This is a GREAT limerick, Duke.

Driving and minimal exercising are certainly part of the problem, but eating is the major problem. It's a lot easier to take in calories than to burn them off exercising. We don't look at our plates as artfully as the Europeans do. Whoever really discovers how to teach proper eating habits will be in demand!

G'day Duke... they're building fast food outlets too close to our homes so we don't have to walk as far for our grease, sugar, and processed flour - thanks Duke - Lindsay

Yeah--the invasion of the body snatchers!! It's just a shame that people go into these places when there are much better alternatives available to most of us. Here, it costs more to eat the right kind of food so there is an incentive for people to eat the wrong things. The way the food chain has perverted agriculture is astounding.

Jan, you have it right! Moderation was the philosophy of Aristotle thousands of years ago. However, we haven't taken it to heart. You have been able to, and that is very well done. There is no desire for moderation here! In fact, I heard Donald Trump say he is going to make us rich if elected. Not too many people get it.
