Christmas Memory
Christmas Memory
From childhood memories I recollect
I asked for bicycle as birthday present.
Dad put just a clause,
‘Let it be Santa Claus.
He will bring the gift: A grand event.
False hope gave simultaneous jerk and shock.
‘How could Santa Claus put cycle inside sock?
Dad told ’Neither to worry,
Nor to feel sorry.
Cycle to be put beside sock by twelve O’clock.
Enjoyed Christmas Eve and happily slept.
Rejoiced to see cycle beside sock on day next.
Christmas Carol, I sang
And the door- bell rang.
Someone gave bill of for payment.
I rushed to Dad ‘Santa has come in disguise!
He claims money. Do you realise?’
Dad was prompt to say
‘Later, Santa will surely pay.
Messenger has come to apologise.’
