Thought-provoking limerick Jack. Yeah, we as humans often have the tendency of repeating history, even the atrocious things. I certainly hope something like a world war won't happen again, though we cant really be surprised. Such traumatic events are never forgotten..my grandfather served as a doctor of some kind in World War II. Never met him, but what my dad said, he never talked about it. Always, Laura

I was just a youngster and it truly was a special time! It seems like the movies to my young mind... us against them and the good guys won! But what a tragic time! Love, Jack xxx

Hubby's Dad was a plane mechanic during WWII. When they ran out of B29 gunners... The mechanics became turret gunners... He was shot down 3 times. Once in a life raft for a day. Once on a life raft for a week... And finally in a life raftaALONE for a month with a shot up leg... He wouldn;t talk about it either... And wouldn't eat chocolate or fish ever again.

I'm sure he would say thank you to the rescue pilots... and tip his hat to Tim's Dad.

Thanks for the reminder Jack although I will NEVER forget...My father was a seaplane pilot during that war and flew rescue missions in The Battle of Midway armed with only a rear machine gunner...He hardly ever talked about it, typical of that generation and understandably, NEVER flew again...Great poem and thanks again - Tim

My brother-in-law who is still alive in his 90s piloted a B-12 and flew 31 missions over Berlin! As with your dad, he vary rarely talked about it! Must have been very traumatic for everyone... knowing that innocent people were dying because of their missions! Thanks Tim!
