You are the first to let me know that the results were in! Thanks, CayCay. I was surprised by my 2nd place win! And I'm delighted with those results. I tried to keep it clean and humorous at the same time. So I guess that worked. ~~~~~ :)

A true to life limerick. Happily I'm not a female, although I've written poems about agonizing men in line waiting to use a urinal! Thank you for stopping by. Best to you in your writing endeavors. / M

Laughing out loud is good! Your opinion means a lot to me , Jan. Any poem that can cause others to laugh doesn't have to be perfect! But I did try my best. I only hope Roy reads the new version after the original was submitted? Hugs, Darlene

Ha! Great little limerick, Darlene, should do well. Regarding your question to Jan, my take on it has always been that the rythmn for lines one, two and five should match, eachother, then lines three and four should be equal. Syllable counts can vary- example; there was an old man from darjeeling, who got on a bus bound for Ealing, it said on the door, do not spit on the floor, so he carefully spat on the ceiling', which is 9,9,5,5,9. As long as you get the rythmn, you're fine.

That one is by Gelett Burgess. I found it by looking for limericks in one of my poetry books. I think it is great.

Thanks, Viv, that is very helpful! I've read some great poems and I don't have my hopes up too high for mine. But I'm up for any surprise. If I just make the list, that will be rewarding. A limerick for you. "I wish that my room had a floor/I don't so much care for a door/But this walking around/without touching the ground/is getting to be such a bore/

I don't know much about limericks. How does it sound to you? Is there anything you would change? Syllable counts confuse me! But I'm glad you liked it. And I hope you enter the contest, too.
