I'M Huck

I’m Huck, and my last name is Finn. On the great Mississippi I’ve been playing hooky from school ‘cause there ain’t any rule that can keep Huckleberry caged in. I bet that you’ve already read about the fun life that I’ve led, how I got a bad foe that they called Injun Joe and how me and Tom one time played dead! I ain’t nothin’ special, just Huck. In my boyhood forever I’m stuck. Just one kid needs to look at the words in Twain’s book and I’ll stay alive - with any luck! *My character, of course, is Huckleberry Finn, taken from the novel of the same title, written by a very witty humorist, Samuel Clemens, AKA Mark Twain. Written 4/20/14 by Andrea Dietrich for the "Become a fictitious character taken from a book (or a movie) ! Free Poetry Contest" of Giorgio A.V.

I was reading through the comments on this and saw visits from both Matthew Anish and Daver Austin, the two names you and I entered into the Uncontest (since renamed the "Back To Life" contest). Kind of sad. Nice limericks, though. You have great rhythm, I see many limericks that don't flow. It's just a gift you have.

I have read all Mark Twain's works. including essays, lectures and letters. He was so far ahead of his time in his views that he still reads like a modern progressive writer. Good one. Check typo in first line. Cheers, Roy

I love how you immortalize Huck with your delightful poem Andrea. It is true he will live on as long as children and adults read his story, rather Sam's story. He really knew how to keep the interest of kids. A great poem Andrea, I just loved it!

Interesting1 I once bought my late father an annotated copy of Huckleberry Finn. I have not read it. I remember enjoying Tom Sawyer - even mad up a little poem about it "AT one time I wanted to be a lawyer - would have been better off staying home and re - reading Tom Sawyer. Nice poem! Peace & Love Matthew Anish
