A Floridian's Pet of Choice

Although most pets are cuddly and furry Like playful pups and kittens furry My choice of pet may astound Not many of these around But this one needs little care or worry At the risk of being called a weirdo My pet of choice is a scaled, green gecko Florida swamps filled with flies Cockroaches grow giant size Request already denied by GEICO These reptiles hide away during the day They require no food; on insects they prey Geckos don’t warm laps at night Dine on pests that fright or bite And your insect fears they’ll surely allay *For Francine Roberts’ “Pick a Pet” Contest Written July 3, 2011

Sadly I don't have a pet anymore and would gladly have a gecko. They are fascinating little fellows. Your verse describes them perfectly.

This is just too cute. And a great eco friendly way to rid the house of pests. Two thumbs up my friend. God Bless, JB

In hot places, a Gecko is not a bad idea, even a few of them as there will be ample insects for them. Many congratulations on your win in Francine's contest. Have a wonderful day Carolyn :) xx

Nice one. We have gecko "pets" posted on the outside of many of our windows. They are the guardians of the inside! A welcomed guest out here in the woods! We "co-habitat"...respectfully. Never tried to pet one, though! LOL Enjoyed your poem.

LOL, sounds like a pretty cool pet : ) If I had one, I could take it to hotel rooms with me and make sure it ate any BBs lurking in the bed!

Doggies, Carolyn! I've been looking for such a creature, though my cats do keep the pad fairly free of unwanted. crawly things. You be great at writing limericks, among other things, of course. Health and happiness. Love, daver

hmmm, this is not a pet I would like, but it's better than a tarantula at least!! I think it would be cool to have skunk! a deoderized one. I heard they can do that to a skunk! WEll, also what I like about your gecko is that it would eat the insects in your house. I could like it for THAT! Soupmail.
